Follicular FSH and LH receptor binding during induced Atresia in hamster

Abstract
Early signs of atresia were exhibited after 2-3days of ovulatory delay in preovulatoryfollicles from hamsters treated on proestrus for 1-3 days with phenobarbital sodium.
A slight decrease in follicular FSH binding was seen by day 1 of delay and significant decrease was evident by day 2 of delay. FSH binding was more significantly decreased by day 3 of ovulatory delay.
There was a tendency to increase in follicular hCG binding but the increase was slightly higher than proestrus control group : the increase in the ratio of hCG : FSH binding was mostly due to a decrease in FSH binding to whole follicles, and this correlated with the previous findings of progesterone increase and estradiol and androstenedione decrease in follicular fluid of phenobarbital induced ovulatory delayed follicles.
